The Cook’s Brief
Editorial & Image Policy
Clear sources. Practical instructions. Honest limits.
How recipes are developed
We research established published recipes, compare ingredient proportions and methods, choose a consistent approach and write directions for The Cook’s Brief. Sources appear on each recipe. We check ingredient lists, steps, units, timing and relevant food-safety guidance before publication.
Our recipes have not been cooked or kitchen-tested by us. Software validation and source review do not substitute for a kitchen trial. We do not invent testing claims, ratings, reviews or quotations.
Food news and useful context
News and explainers link to original sources whenever possible. Publication dates, source dates and review dates identify the age of the information. We distinguish a new development from a background explainer and our interpretation from a source’s findings.
Forecasts are not guaranteed outcomes. Proposed rules are not final requirements. An older study does not become new research because its summary page was updated. For recalls and similar changing information, follow the responsible agency’s current notice.
AI and images
AI tools assist with drafting, organizing and illustrating content. The publication is responsible for checking the material it publishes. Recipe images are labeled AI-generated illustrations and are not evidence of kitchen testing. We do not present generated pictures as documentary photographs of news events.
We use our own assets or material with appropriate permission. Attribution alone is not permission to copy a publisher’s photograph or expressive writing.
Measurements and safety
US measurements are the default. The metric option uses rounded grams for ounce and pound weights and rounded milliliters for cup and spoon volumes. Counts stay counts. We do not invent ingredient-specific weight conversions from volume. Temperature guidance includes both systems.
Food-safety instructions draw on relevant authorities such as USDA, FDA and FoodSafety.gov. A cooking time does not replace a required temperature or doneness check. We do not offer individualized dietary advice.
Corrections and updates
Use Contact Us to identify an error or attribution concern. Include the page and exact passage. Our approach is to assess the evidence, correct material errors and explain substantive updates on the affected page. Content with an unresolved safety concern should be corrected or withdrawn, not kept in circulation to fill a publishing slot.
Commercial relationships
The current site has no advertising placements, paid memberships or affiliate links. If sponsored material or affiliate links are introduced, the relevant content will identify that relationship. Commercial arrangements must not be disguised as independent reporting.
